Extract from Saris’s Log, 7th July 1613

The CloveIn which they entertain an ‘especiall frinde’ of the local ‘Kinge’ and show off their ship..

The kinge of the Island Goto, not farr from Firando, came to visitt king Foyne, saying that hee had heard of an excellent English shipp, arived in his Dominions, which hee greatelie desired to see, and goe aboarde of.  King Foyne intreated mee that hee might be admitted, for that hee was an especiall frinde of his.  Soe hee was well entertained aboarde, bancketed and had divers-peeces shott of at his departure; Which hee verie kindelie accepted and tould mee, that hee should be right gladd, to live to see some of our nation to come to his Island, whether they should be hartelie wellcome.”  (pp. 161 – 162)
