The Clove
The Clove

..in which they meet Dutch traders and hear of the reputation of the English on the high seas..
A Soma or Iunck of the Fleminges arived at Langasque from Syam laden with Brasill wood and Skinness of all sortes, wherein it was said that there were Englishmen, but proved to be fleminges, for that before our cuming they passed generallie by the name of Englishmen. For our English nation hath beene longe knowne by reporte amonge them, but much scandalized by the Portugall Iesuites, as Pirates and roavers vppon the seas; soe that the Naturalles haue a songe, which they call the English crofonia, shewing howe the English doe take the Spanish shippes, which they (singing) doe act likewise in gesture with theire Cattans by theire sides, with which songe and actinge they terrifie and scare theire childeren, as the French sometimes did theires with the name of the Lord Talbott.
