The English trading stations (or ‘factory’) on Hirado was run for the ten years of its existence by Richard Cocks. He died returning from Japan and has no grave. Japan400 has commissioned a monument to Cocks which will be installed in his baptismal church on the nearest sunday to the opening of the factory 400 years ago (which was on 26 Nov, 1613). The
monument will be dedicated by the Bishop of Stafford
In partnership with: St Chad’s Church, Seighford
